Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette Swatches, Review, Pictures

As many of you already know, Urban Decay recently released several new items for their fall 2011 collection. I posted earlier about their new 24/7 liquid liners and showed all the amazing shades they come in. Also released with the fall 2011 line from Urban Decay is a limited edition palette called The Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette, which is to celebrate UD's 15th year as a makeup line.

*Also, note that I have a new post comparing The Naked Palette to The 15 Year Palette. Click the link to see how close the similar shades are and help yourself decide if you really want both palettes. : )

Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Palette

Are you ready for the info on this palette? It includes 15 full size eyeshadow, all of which are brand new, never before released shades that UD says will not be released again anytime soon. So if you love these shades, definitely grab the palette as soon as you see it because it will sell out quickly (it sold out on the urban decay site the first day, but ulta, sephora, and beauty.com will be selling it as well. I've heard sephora stores will stock them on the 31st of July). You can also sign-up to get on the wait list for a palette at the Urban Decay website.

Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Palette Velvet Box

So back to the palette itself. Here is where it gets special, the palette comes in an intricate metal box that is encrusted with the letters UD in gems ontop. The box itself is inside a pretty, deep purple, velvet box. When you open the palette, you will see the 15 shadows in all of their glory, ranging from neutrals to brights to smokey shades. Those who don't like a bulky palette will love this part, you can lift the 15 shadows out of the box if you'd like, and under the shadows is another velveted area so you can keep your pretty little box to store jewelry and other makeup well after you've used up the shadows. The lid of the box also has a full sized mirror inside it, just make sure to take off the plastic coating.

Here's the downfall of the packaging. While it is a beautiful darkened silver, almost mirror like box, your finger prints will stick to it like no other. Mine is already covered in prints. And just a tip, if you try to wash it or wipe off the prints, they will just smear into one big mess : (

Evidence, Blackout, Chase, Deep End, Half Truth

Now, what everyone is wanting to know, what about the shadows? The shadows are gorgeous. You have a very pretty highlight shade called vanilla, a couple of lighter creamy beiges, a few smokey shades with sparkles, a matte black, a purple with blue and pink duochrome, a couple darker browns, a gold, a peach, a beautiful and bright teal and even more. There's pretty much something for everyone.
Midnight Rodeo, Tainted, Deeper, Midnight 15, Junkshow, M.I.A

The only flaw I can think of in this palette shade wise is the big lack of mattes. The only matte shade is the black, which pretty much everyone already has a matte black, right? I mean, it will still come in handy because most people go through their matte blacks very quickly, but still, I would have liked to have at least one bright matte color and one or two matte neutrals. Don't get me wrong, I love glitter and shimmer, I just feel for a special 15 year palette, they should have included all textures.

However, the shade range is pretty decent. I love that they threw in the neutrals, a couple brights and the duochrome. The texture of the majority of the shadows is very creamy. There were a couple that felt a little gritty, vanilla being one of those, but it is still a gorgeous highlight shade either way.

Ace, Flow, Evidence, Blackout, Chase, Deep End, Half Truth

The only shade I had trouble getting to show up, which I think may be due to the fact that I'm pale and it almost blends in to my skin, is Tainted. Has anyone else had trouble with this shade? I think I will try using it under a nyx jumbo eyeshadow pencil and see if that helps it. But other than that shade, they are all super pigmented.  I found that the shade M.I.A is the most pigmented of them all with Chase not being too far behind. Both of those shades only take one small touch with the brush to cover your entire eyelid.

Tainted, Deeper, Junkshow, M.I.A, Vanilla, Omen

I was a little shocked we didn't get any 24/7 liner pencils, a brush, a gloss or some other little extra, seeing as how all most all the other palettes come with one or the other. That isn't a big deal, but I wanted to mention in it just in case you assumed you'd be getting a couple eyeliners with it.

Also, note that these are FULL SIZED shadows, which would have cost almost $300 if they were sold with the other individual shades at $17 a piece, so you are getting a bargain even though the palette is priced at $55. Plus, you get the beautiful keepsake box and shades that you won't be able to get anywhere else. I think it's really worth the $55 price tag.

@@The Makeup-up Fairy - Yes Omen is really pretty and unique. I actually paired it with the teal shade, Deep End, yesterday and it made a beautiful ocean/mermaid sort of look : )
