Mac Quite Cute Lipstick Swatches, Pictures, Review & Quite Cute Buttons / Pins

MAC Cosmetics released their new Quite Cute Collection on April 7th, 2011 in the US. This collection included four new lipsticks, Playing Koi, Playtime, Quite Cute, and Candy Yum Yum. There is also one re-promoted lipstick, Saint Germain, which can be found in MAC's permanent collection line.

Candy Yum Yum, Saint Germain, Playtime, Quite Cute, Playing Koi
You'll see that I've reviewed each shade of lipstick for you, swatched them on both my lips and hand, as well as provided you with the MAX display images and swatches, which I combined into bigger pictures and labeled just for you guys.I also have the four exclusive limited edition MAC Quite Pins which feature several of the animated characters that pop-up on the Mac Website right now (the panda, cloud, diamond guy, and lips).

Lip Swatches and Individual Shade Review

Mac Candy Yum Yum, it's more neon and brighter in person

Candy Yum Yum:  First pictured and swatched, Candy Yum Yum. It is a bright, matte, neon pink. This shade is insanely pigmented and by far the brightest pink lipstick I've seen. Even though this shade is a matte, it isn't drying and doesn't really tug on your lips like most matte formula lipsticks do. If you are looking for a neon pink, I'd recommend this shade.

Mac Quite Cute Lipstick
Quite Cute: Next, we have swatches of Quite Cute lipstick. This shade is a pastel lilac with sort of a white tinge. This reminds me of a very much lighter version of Blooming Lovely, which happens to be my favorite Mac Lipstick ever, so it's nice to have a lighter version However this one doesn't look that great on me.  Beware that this shade is very cool toned and pastel, so it may not work well with darker, warm skin unless you pair it with some sort of gloss.

Mac Playtime Lipstick, Flash & No Flash
Playtime: This is a pink tinged purple in a creamesheen finish, which means it is very buildable and looks glossy. Don't be afraid of the color in the tube, because one application of this will be rather sheer. However, if you do want the color you see in the tube, you'll have to layer it on some, as you do with most other lipstick of this finish. Also, if you look up close at this lipstick in the tube, you can see a sort of purple/fuchsia sparkle in it, but this doesn't show up on the lips. I showed both the flash and non flash version of this lipstick because it made a dramatic difference in tone, whereas the other shades didn't react like this.

Mac Playing Koi Lipstick

Playing Koi: Here we have a picture swatch of Playing Koi, a peachy, nude pastel. This is going to look best on lighter skin tones and many people with porcelin skin are going to love how light this is, while darker tones may end up hating it for the same reason. If you find most nudes are way too dark for you, Playing Koi is probably a good option.
As far as the formula for this goes, make sure to exfoliate your lips because it shows any peeling and lines you have. I've seen several people who it didn't work for, but as you can see, it didn't look too bad on my lips once I exfoliated them.

Mac Saint Germain Lipstick

Saint Germain is pictured above. Like I mentioned, this color is a permanent shade, so don't worry if you can't pick it up right now. This shade is an amplified creme, which is the best Mac Lipstick formula in my opinion because they have amazing color payoff. This is a purple toned, pastel pink or a sort of purple tinged version of a cool-toned bubblegum pink.

Overall, I love these lipsticks. It's the first collection that I've bought every single lipstick from. I love pastels and cool toned lipsticks, and these shades go great with my fair skin.

What do you think of these lipsticks? Have you tried any of them? Which is your favorite? Comment below and let us know!

Maybelline Fuchsia Fever Lipstick Swatches, Pictures, Review 140

Maybelline has released a bright pink lipstick called Fuchsia Fever. The shade is an intense, blue-based pink, with a semi-glossy finish.

The pigmentation of this lipstick is very good. It can be dabbed on for a less intense version or built-up for extra bright, pink lips.

The texture of this lipstick is decent. It doesn't feel gritty or sticky. It is a creme finish shade with a shiny finish.

Many people were loving MAC Candy Yum Yum from the Quite Cute Collection, which was released just last week. So if you are wondering how this compares to Candy Yum Yum, it isn't quite as bright. Maybelline Fuchsia Fever also does not have the flat matte texture that candy yum yum has, however it is sort of a similar shade and perhaps the closest you will find to the shade in a drugstore. It isn't by any means a dupe. Candy Yum Yum is more of neon pink, rather than just a hot pink, and Fuchsia Fever also has more of a blue tone to it.

On my lips: Maybelline Fuchsia Fever

The wear of this particular lipstick is around 3 hours for me without touching it. If I were to drink something, it would not last quite as long. This seems to a pretty typical wear time for me personally with most lipsticks.

Overall, if you are searching for a creme based hot pink or something intense from the drugstore, you may really love Fuchsia Fever lipstick.  If you don't like intense shades, you may still like this because it can be dabbed on for a much less intense color. If you do not like pinks, this definitely isn't for you.

Maybelline Lipsticks can be found at most major retailers and drugstores for around $5 - $7 on average.

Urban Decay Rollergirl Palette Pictures, Information

Urban Decay Rollergirl Palette

UD says, "For the girl who works and plays hard - easy daytime neutrals, one vividbright and a portable lip gloss ready for the office or an impromptu happy hour."

"With its sexy neutrals and captivating brights, this fun four-shadow palette can roll with you from the office right into your next hot date. Smoldering brown Darkhorse shadow was previously featured in the much sought after Naked Palette, and the coppery Suspect triumphed in the Book of Shadows. Verve is a pale oyster shimmer that also makes a great highlighter! Woodstock, a hot pink best-seller, is as perfect at the beach as it is at a bar. "

"This tantalizing collection makes a great gift, and also comes with a Lip Junkie Lipgloss and a 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, our #1 selling (and award-winning!) liner. The slim pink and gold foil case, adorned with photos of our Rollergirl, is easy to tote around and features a magnetic closure so that the contents don’t wind up in your purse. Take it everywhere you go."

So, the great thing about this palette is that it has your nice bronzey, taupey, summer shades, but also includes a nice hot pink for a pop of color. The Rollergirl palette includes a different color 24/7 liner, rather than the same old zero that comes with almost every other palette. As a bonus, you get a really pretty hot pink lipgloss with this palette. You have almost everything you need for a quick, pretty summer makeup look all in one little collection.

I'm really excited about this palette and I  recommend using the pink as an eyeliner on top or on bottom to give a nice pop to your neutral eye and then of course line your waterline with the brown 24/7 liner and pair it with the hot pink gloss. You'll look all summery and pretty in no time : )

What do you think of the new Urban Decay Rollergirl Eyeshadow Palette? Do you like the colors? Leave a comment below and let us know.

The First Unretouched Makeup Ad - Make Up For Ever HD Foundation

People have voiced negative thoughts about the photoshop state of advertorial ads, especially makeup. How's a girl to know what the mascara looks like if the model is wearing three pairs of false lashes in addition to being photoshoped? How do we the coverage of a foundation if the ad shows a girl with a completely retouched face? And it's always upsetting to get a product that not only doesn't look anything like the ad, but does nothing the product claims.

So why don't makeup companies just show us the real thing so we will know if the product is what we are wanting?Make Up For Ever has listened to the consumer complaints.

Here’s the new revolutionary ad campaign for Spring/Summer 2011 signed Makeup Up For Ever Professionals. It’s the First Unretouched Makeup Ad. And it promotes the Makeup For Ever High Definition Foundation. This is a public notary non retouched certified ad.

I first seen this very ad in a magazine last month and was instantly drawn in by how real the image looked. It looks the same as I picture I would take of myself, except it's in a higher quality of course. They have the girl looking up into her camera like she is taking the picture herself. I think this is a great campaign and something that will give MUFE an edge.

Will this change the ad face of the world? Would you rather see more of these unretouched ads? I personally think it's great and gives a real view of what the product looks like, even if it is on a model with seemingly perfect skin, it's better than twenty layers of retouched photoshop images, right?

I did purchase a few items from last years summer collection, the bronzer and the eyeshadow quad, they look extremely similar to this years, except with different colors of course. So if these are anything like last years items, they were good quality and really pigmented. The bronzer is a good alternative to the mac mineralized bronzers.

Have you tried anything from this collection? If so what do you think? Leave a comment below and let us know.

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil Swatches, Pictures, Review

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil Swatches, Pictures, Review.

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow pencils have been around for awhile and have a good rep in the makeup community as being great, inexpensive bases for eyeshadow. I have to agree with them. They are soo creamy, pigmented and smooth and at only $3.50 (prices may vary from store to store) how can you not love these?

Pots n Pans, Black Bean, French Fries, Cherry, Lemon
I have to say I use black bean the most. I have two or three of these because I love them so much. One for my traincase, one for makeup drawers and a backup. Black bean works wonders on smokey eyes. Whether you want to make your smokey eye darker or just stay smudge proof and in place all day long, this is something you should consider using. You can also use these as a base to deepen any color you may have that you want to be a bit darker.

I also love to used Iced Mocha (sorry it's not pictured) for natural or taupe colored eyes. It's similar to the color french fries, but is more of a taupey/champagne shade. It gives you a nice stick base as well as adds a bit of shimmer to your shadow. It can also help to add color to a more sheer eyeshadow (as can all of the shades).

Cherry can be a life save for pink shadows that you can't get to show up well enough. It seems a lot of pink shades are rather sheer, so you can pop cherry underneath and brighten it up some.

French Fries, Lemon, Pots n Pans, Black Bean, Cherry

French Fries is a nice bronzey shade, which will be great for the summer. I love wearing shimmery copper or bronze eyes paired with a nice bronzer on my cheeks for summer. As many of you may know, the summer heat can melt makeup off really easily, so using a base such as these jumbo eyeshadow pencils can help prolong your eyeshadow wear during the summer. Just be sure to apply a very thin layer and blend it out well, if you get creasing from these, you are using too much.

Pots N Pans is shimmery silver. I think this is nice for holiday eyes. When I think of holidays, I think golds and silvers, but of course you can use this whenever you want to.

Lemon is a pretty green shade with a bit of gold to it. This will be nice for spring and summer as well if you want to do a nice colorful look with greens.

I also use the white one, milk, a lot, but I totally forgot to grab it for swatches, but it's the same consistency as the other pencils, just in white. This is best used to brighten up and add a look of more pigmentation to your eyeshadows.

Overall, I really love these pencils. They work so well as a base and they are super creamy and pigmented.

Have you tried NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils Before? Which colors do you recommend? Leave a comment below and let us know!

Setting Us Up by guest blogger Stevie Kirby

My wife and I on a very small barbecue restaurant in Tennessee. Our business has always been family run, and we've been really lucky the last few years to actually watch it grow during these tough economic times. Last month, we knew we needed to figure out a way to accept credit card payments at the restaurant since up until then, we had only accepted cash in the store since processing was rather expensive. We did some research and actually found some reasonable rates, and now we are much more professional when it comes to taking credit cards. I hate having to deal with all the technical stuff like that, since I would much rather be in the kitchen, but I guess it's all part of owning your own business. My wife is really good at handling the books and all of our vendor relationships, so this definitely just falls in that bucket. Hopefully business will continue to thrive and we'll have money to make even more improvements by the time the new year rolls around.

Favorite Makeup & Beauty Products (March Favorites 2011)

This is a list of makeup and beauty products that I found myself using the most during the month of March 2011. Some are my probably my favorites, others may have been new products that I was testing out and others may just be random items I gravitated toward last month. Either way, here's a list of what I used the most.

Foundation - Revlon Colorstay Foundation Combo/Oily Skin in 150 Buff, Maybelline Fit Me 110
  • This is my favorite foundation because it's the only one that stays on my skin all day. The color is a bit dark as pretty much all foundations are. I'm aware there is a lighter shade, but it is super pink in tone and makes my face look red. Either way, the ivory shade was too dark as well.
  • Okay, the Maybelline Fit Me 110 I really liked the first couple days. It did make me oily, but I just used a matte powder ontop. It didn't stay as long as Revlon Colorstay, but I loved that it was actually light enough for my skintone and felt really lightweight. However, by day three I started getting some blemishes. I let it go and used it for about another week. I never should have done that... my face was covered with tiny blemishes.
Nail Polish - China Glaze Crackle Glaze in Black Mesh
  •  Yes, I was bitten by the crackle nail polish bug. I absolutely loved the black shatter over anything, especially over silver holographic type polishes (like Color Club Worth the Risque). I think I wore this the entire month, with the exception of using a few other of the crackle glaze shades. Also, I just recently started wearing some pastel again for spring
Makeup Remover/Face Wipes - Garnier Nutri Pure Detoxofying wet cleansing towelettes.
  • I started using these in mid march, after the dreaded maybelline fit me breakout occurred. I figured I needed something oilfree and with acne fighting green tea because of my situation. These work really well at removing makeup. I can get all of my foundation off and almost all of my eye makeup off with one little towelette. The good news is, they don't cause me to breakout like almost everything else does.
Mascara - Maybelline One by One
    • Usually, this mascara wouldn't give me enough volume to even bother with it, but last month I was a more natural looking makeup kick. I put very little eyeliner on, did a matte neutral eye and didn't even put liner on my top lid. I then used this mascara which has a nice effect as far as separation and a decent amount of lengthening properties. I prefer the falsies for it's crazy lengthening abilities as well as giving me a bit of volume, but One by One does separate better.
Dry Shampoo - Got2B Rockin' It Dry Shampoo
    • I really love this stuff. I have naturally curly, dry, coarse hair, so the less I can go without washing it and having to put it through heat styling, the better. However, I like to have something to restore volume, soak up any oil that may be around the roots and something to just refresh my hair and make it smell good. I like to keep a lot of volume at the crown of my head, and this seems to restore it for me.
Shampoo - Matrix Sleek N Smooth
I used this all the time at the end of high school, but stopped using during college because it's expensive. I recently picked it up again and forgot how much it improves the condition of my hair. If you have really dry, curly hair that you like to keep straight and smooth, you should give this a try. It makes my hair much less dry and way smoother after straightening. If you have normal hair it may be too moisturizing for you and this will not work for oily hair more than likely.

    Blooming Lovely
Lipsticks - Mac Viva Glam Gaga ii & Blooming Lovely
Throughout March, I used these two lipsticks quite a bit. Blooming Lovely is one of my all time favorite shades. It was a limited edition shade released with the Liberty of London Collection last year. It's a nice mauvey purple shade. Viva Glam Gaga ii is a nice nude lipsticks with a super creamy finish. It's great paired with dramatic eyes.

Lipgloss - Loreal Hip Shinestruck liquid lip color in Tainted, Revlon Lipgloss in Life's A Peach
I found the loreal hip lipgloss on clearance at Target for $3 and I'm so glad I picked it up. It is so pigmented that it looks more like a lipstick than a gloss, but with the lightweight shiny feeling of a gloss. It's so amazing. The Revlon Gloss I found at Big Lots for a couple bucks and it's super pretty both alone and over other products. It has a peachy tone to it with a sort of duchrome looking finish of a more orange color and it has gold, pink and orange shimmers.

So there you have it, the beauty products I used the most throughout the month of March. Which products did you use the most during March? What are your current favorites? Leave a comment below and let us know.

    The Lipstick Tag

1.When you were a child, did you use your mother's lipsticks?
    • No, my mom didn't wear makeup.

    2. How old were you when you bought your first lipstick?
    • I'm not completely sure, but I think I bought a sheer, shimmery pink lipstick from the dollars store when I was around 11. I was really more into lipgloss and chaptsicks. As a teenager I used lipgloss or liquid lipsticks and I honestly didn't start buying tons of actual lipstick until around the age of 20.
    3. Pink or red lipstick?
    • Probably pinks because I don't use red as often, but I do really like reds. Red is more of my special occasion or late night out kind of shade. Pinks are much more suitable for daytime and for dramatic eyes. And I love doing dramatic eyes, so pink it is.
    4. The most expensive lipstick you have ever bought?
    • Mac lipsticks are the most expensive I've bought I think, which cost around $15.50 at my counter with tax. I've had samples of more expensive lipsticks and tried them on at Sephora, but I really completely love the formula of Mac lipsticks, so why pay more than that?
    • I have bought higher end lipsticks off allcosmeticswholesale.com, which if you haven't been, check it out now, because you get namebrand lipsticks anywhere from $5-$12 usually. And they are legit and what they say they are. I know there are some websites that sell fakes, but you can go research them. They basically get overstocked makeup or find random extras somewhere for cheap, then they sell for usually half the price. Oh, and they get limited edition items that you can't buy anymore as well. haha sorry, didn't mean to turn this answer into a novel.

    5. And the cheapest?
    • Does free count haha? If not, hm... I've gotten elf lipsticks on sale for as low as ten cents, that's pretty much free as well.
    6. What's the most bizarre thing you have ever done with a lipstick?
    • Hm, I've used them to color something before if I didn't like the shade, but I'm sure most people have done that.
    7. If you had to recommend a lipstick, which brand would you recommend and why?
    • My favorite is MAC Amplified Cremes, they stay on my lips for about four hours even after drinking things, they smell amazing, they are so creamy and smooth, they have tons of color selections not available in drugstores and they are really opaque.  As for cheaper ones, NYX Round Lipsticks because they are extremely pigmented, have a good selection, and are moisturizing.

Cute Jeans to Accentuate Your Body Type

There are so many types of jeans available now that it's sometimes hard to choose the right ones for you. I'm going to highlights some of the cutest jeans, who they will look best and where to get them from. I will go over everything from skinny jeans to maternity jeans, no matter your size or shape, I have you covered.

First, let's discuss a type of jean that most people don't include in reviews, maternity jeans. When you are expecting, you want a jean that is going to stretch and make room for growth as well as support your tummy. It's also good to search for a wide leg jean because this will help balance out the width of the tummy to the width of the lower legs and ankles.

Next, let's move on to plus sized jeans (as well as jeans for large waists, but small hips & large hips/backsides). Now, most blogs and magazine are going to recommend the exact same type of jeans to all plus sized girls which is absolutely wrong. Just because you are bigger doesn't mean you have the same body shape as the other plus sized girl. Some have larger waists and small hips, while others have big hips and smaller waists. Most are going to say avoid skinny jeans at all costs, this isn't true for the plus sized girl with small hips and small legs, you can wear skinny jeans. Now, if you are more curvy in the hips, you will want to pick a straight leg or wide leg jean. Also, trouser jeans are good for the majority of plus sized girls because it balances the upper half well with the lower half. If you carry weight in your backside and hips and thighs, this is when you avoid the skinny jeans at all costs.

Next, the girl with a straight figure. If you are really slim and look almost straight from waist to hips, skinny jeans will look amazing on you. They will help accentuate and create curves in your body. You will also look great in tights and leggings as well.

The short girls and the tall girls. First, the short girls are going to want to make sure not to have any scrunching at the bottom of the jeans. If you can't find jeans short enough, always hem them because that scrunching at the bottom will make you look even shorter. Pair your jeans with a pointed toe shoe which will help to elongate the leg and make you look taller.  For tall girls most jeans are going to work for as long as you can get enough length. You can pair your jeans with cute flats or accentuate your height and wear heels.

    Let's Recap:
    • Maternity Jeans, look for stretchy materials and wider legs.
    • Plus size and/or girls with big waists and small hips - Skinny jeans are okay, Trouser jeans will flatter your larger upper-half.
    • Plus size and/or girls with large backsides & hips - Wide leg jeans and Trouser Jeans, avoid skinny jeans.
    • Straight figures, same from waist to hip - Skinny jean will help bring out more curves.
    • Short Girls - Make sure to get jeans that are short enough with no scrunching at the bottom and pair with a pointed toe shoe.
    • Tall Girls - You can look good in anything (note: if fit into another category here as well, take that into consideration). Use a flat to hide your height or heels to be proud and accentuate it.

You can also check out the Right Fit and Curve Id type of jeans, which are suppose to cater to all body shapes based on ratios from waist, hips, etc. I believe this was first started by LaneBryant and FashionBug. Then Levi's revently Launched their verison called Curve Id.

I don't know about you, but I have obsession with nail polish, and this week Sally's Beauty Supply is having a big polish sale. Buy any two bottles, any brand, any price, get one for free! Spring is the perfect time to buy nail polishes because you have all the pretty pastels spring collections out, and usually they even have some of the bright, neon summer shade collections out by now as well.

Here's Sally's official message announcing the sale:  Spring is here and it’s time to add some color to your life! For April let’s liven up your nail polish palette with a great offer.      Need some reccommendations?
*I'm not sure if Sally's keeps the brand Color Club or not, I know they aren't at my local store (but my store is super tiny), but Color Club just released a new summer line with yummy, scented polishes. That would be a nice one to check out.
*Crackle Glaze may or may not still be available depending if you Sally's sold out quickly or not, but their new Island Escape Collection should be hitting shelves soon, so there's another one to check out. I think Orly has had a few collections out as well.
*If you don't have the infamous China Glaze For Audrey, that is a nice color for Spring, it's a robin eggs blue and the same shade as a Tiffany jewelry box. I also love ReFresh-Mint for spring, it's a pale minty shade.
*If you want more of a summer shade, I reccommend picking up some bright oranges and I'm kind of partial to neon or hot pinks myself. If you want something with some sparkle, I really like CG Strawberry Fields. It's a sort of raspberry pink with gold glass flecks in it and it has a super shiny finish.
*A really nice, unique green/teal shade is CG Four Leaf Clover. It's my favorite green ever.  It's one of those that looks even better on the nails than in the bottle.
*If you missed out on OPI Absolutely Alice (the blue with silver sparkly glitter) and you really wanted it, China Glaze has a very similar shade called Dorothy Who, which may or may not be at your Sally's. I'm pretty sure I've seen it still lurking in my store, thoughts.
*Not completely sure yet if this is valid on topcoats, but I recommend the China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat and The Seche Vite.
If you have some more colors in mind that you need a recommendation for, comment below and I'll respond back with my suggestions. Also, leave us a comment on which nail polish collections or shades you've been dying to have.
